Frequently Asked Questions provided by altMD

How do I get or receive a massage? What do I have to do?
The recipient’s job is to breathe and relax as completely as possible.  Bolsters, pillows and blankets are used as needed to provide you with the best possible comfort.

Can I talk during the massage?
Yes it is ok talk to the therapist.  It is important to communicate with the therapist about the pressure being applied or if you become uncomfortable on the table...of course positive feedback is always welcome.   *Keep in mind that talking should be minimized to enhance the mind's connection to the body and the therapy that is occuring.

Do I take off my clothes?
In most cases, all clothing is removed before the session.  Some clients prefer to leave underwear on and that is ultimately the decision of the client.  * Your body will be covered at all times with a sheet and blanket.  Only the areas that are being worked on at that moment are uncovered.

What if the pressure isn't right?
Please let us know what types of pressure you would prefer.  We can start out lighter and work easily into a different technique using either deeper or less pressure. Generally most therapists pay special attention to the individuals needs at that time.

Should I eat or drink anything before?
Any food should be consumed 2 hours prior to a massage to allow time for digestion  It is recommended that you drink plenty of plain water the day before, the day of and the day after your massage. Refrain from alcohol 6 hours prior to a massage.

How often should I get a massage?
Generally a few sessions close together upfront are recommended and then we try to get you on to a maintenance schedule, perhaps bi-monthly, monthly or every 6 weeks.  It varies as much by person as by issue.  Some people can and do come in every week for their own weekly body tune-up.

Is there music?
Yes, If you like. Massage is about you, the client.  Music has been found to distract the brain and alleviate the noise in our minds that can prevent us from relaxing.  Please relay any musical preferences to the therapist and we will be happy to accommodate you.

Do I leave a gratuity?
I feel the highest compliment is to refer a friend.  Gratuities are never encouraged or expected, but will be graciously accepted.
